Diabetic Diet: Top 5 foods

A diabetic diet can seem restrictive but it doesn’t have to be. You can include a variety of foods that will stabilise your blood sugar and help your diabetes. This list of foods is not exhaustive but a great place to start and making healthier choices can improve your condition.

Oats

Although they are carbohydrates, they are good quality whole-grains that also include vitamins, minerals and proteins.

Olive Oil

A diet rich in monounsaturated fats like the ones found in olive oil can reduce your risk of type diabetes.

Beans

Beans have many benefits for diabetes, they low glycemic, count towards you 5 a day, a source of protein and fibre.

Avocado

Like olive oil, avocados are a great source of monounsaturated fats and their benefits go much further. They contain protein, vitamins, minerals, water and fibre.

Almonds 

They’ve shown a 30 per cent reduction in post-meal glucose levels for patients with type 2 diabetes and eating almonds have supported evidence that they can help people with type 2 diabetes to maintain their blood glucose and cholesterol levels.
